Hypermagnesaemia

High magnesium — a rare but potentially life-threatening electrolyte disorder

Hypermagnesaemia is a serum magnesium above 1.05 mmol/L. It is rare in patients with normal renal function and most commonly occurs in renal failure or following excessive magnesium administration. Severe hypermagnesaemia is life-threatening, requiring IV calcium gluconate and renal support.
